Packing Tips for a City Break

Tomorrow I am heading off on a city break for a few days. If you follow me on Twitter you can probably already tell where I am going but those of you that don't, you'll have to wait until next week for a travel diary post.

This trip is a little different to any other I have been on as I am flying with an airline I haven't flown with before and I am only flying with hand luggage.

The first generic tip would be to check that your passport is still valid! I know it's obvious but always best to check. The second, that I wish I had done earlier, is checked the hand luggage requirements. This includes the maximum weight allowed and the size of the suitcase. For me, this is 10kg and resulted in my buying a new suitcase as mine was too big.

1. Avoid Bulky Liquids
Liquids are limited when using hand luggage. You are restricted to under 100ml and fitting everything into a small clear bag. If you can avoid putting shampoo, conditioner and body wash in your bag before security... do so! There will more than likely be a shop in the departure lounge that you can buy them or a shop when you get to your destination. This allows you to pack everything you really need rather than having to sacrifice anything.

2. Roll Clothes
This is a pretty standard trick for maximising space. Rather than stacking your clothes on each other, roll each item and place them in a row. This allows each item to be packed easily and can be found without having to moves piles and cause creasing. In addition, you can roll each outfit together so you can prevent mixing outfits together.

3. Small Bags
I am quite an organised person so like to have everything in its place and like to know everything is sorted. Put it this way, my bag was all packed on Tuesday and I wasn't going for another week! (I like to blame the excitement!) My suitcase has dividers so I put all of my clothes in the big zipped size and then everything else in the elasticated strap side. However, everything tends to fall out when I open the case. I decided to use small cosmetic bags to divide and section off the bag. I placed my toiletry bag with shower cap and toothbrush etc to the bottom. I have then padded an 'extras' bag with hotel confirmation, plasters and plastic bag in the middle. At the top of the suitcase is a bag for all of the liquids in a double sealed plastic bag. I have then placed my electrical bag to the side of this so I can quickly take these out when it comes to security and it doesn't mess everything inside of the bag.

I hope at least one of these were helpful!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed
